We are happy to announce that the European Birds of Passage team will be hosted by the International Labour Organization in Geneva on 28 October 2025 (1PM – 3PM CEST) for a hybrid seminar on the theme Temporary Labour Migration in Europe The seminar will present the preliminary findings of our project and engage with their relationship with ILO norms.
Our team will present four contributions:
- Marco Rocca, “Spatiotemporal scales and the identification of temporary labour migrants: insights from a systematic analysis of EU law”
- Catharina Lopes Scodro, “Migrant domestic work in France and Ireland: An investigation of au pairs’ models of regulation and challenges in view of ILO Convention No. 189”
- Audrey Deverson, “The role of the ILO Conventions in the social protection of temporary migrant workers in France and Spain”
- Daniel Elanga Mendogo, “Trade and Labour Market consequences of the EU’s 2018 Posting of Workers Reform: Descriptive Evidence”
Drawing on empirical legal, comparative, and economic perspectives, the presentations will explore how EU temporary migration regimes intersect with labour rights and social protection. They also aim to contribute to debates within the ILO on governance, fair mobility, and protection for temporary migrant workers.
We look forward to engaging with researchers, policymakers, and ILO stakeholders in Geneva. More details and registration are available on the ILO event page.
